When a machine goes down, the instinct is to get it to a shop. But transport, downtime, and lost production can cost more than the repair itself. Sometimes the right call is to bring the shop to the machine.
When field repair wins
On-site service makes sense when the machine can be safely worked on where it sits, the fault is diagnosable in the field, and moving it would cost a full day of production or more.

Major engine work, undercarriage replacement, and anything needing a press, crane, or clean environment is faster and better done in the shop — where the tools and parts are already staged.
